Koh Samet is an island in the Gulf of Thailand, a few hours from Bangkok. Hat Sai Kaew, “diamond sand beach”, is its liveliest beach, known for the Rak Tae monument of the mermaid and the child, from the Thai epic Phra Aphai Mani.
